Name Card Computer Lesson Plan

OBJECTIVES
To develop
an understanding of:
1. the layout
of a name card.
2. formatting of information.
3. checking spelling and grammar
SETTING
THE STAGE
Collect examples
of name cards. Photocopy them and hand out to students. Show these to
the students.
DISCUSS
Examine the
parts of the name card. Have students list this information so that they
can refer to it when typing their own card. Discuss how they will prepare
a ready-made card then do their own.
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Start
Microsoft Word.
2. Go to the Tools menu.
3. Click and drag to Envelopes and Labels.
4. Click the Labels tab across the top.
5. Click the Options button.
6. In the Product Number box, scroll down to 5095 - Name Badge.
7. Click on it.
8. Click the OK button.
9. In the Address box, type your name.
10. Press the Enter key.
11. Type your title e.g. Managing Director
12. Check the Full page of same label button is checked.
13. Click the New Document button.
14. A new file will open.
15. Select all the text on the page.
16. Right click over the selected text.
17. Choose Cell Alignment from the menu.
18. Choose Align Center from the drop down menu next to Alignment. (It's
in the middle!)
19. Click the OK button.
20. Choose Save As: from the File menu.
21. Navigate to your floppy disk or folder.
22. Type a name for your file - NAME CARD.
23. Click the Save button.
24. Select your name text.
25. Increase the size and bold it.
26. Hold down the Ctrl key and press the S key to save your work.
27. Choose Print from the File menu.
28. Click the OK button to produce a paper copy of your work.
29. Cut out the card.
ASSESSMENT
Check for good layout, easy to read, accurate copying and good spelling.
EXTENSION
Have students prepare their own envelopes for a range of jobs.
